GAZPROM Group and port of Rostock investigate opportunities for cooperation in LNG market

GAZPROM Group and the operator of the Baltic Sea port of Rostock, Hafen-Entwicklungs-gesellschaft Rostock mbH, have signed a memorandum of understanding on possible cooperation in the LNG (liquefied natural gas) market.

The main direction of future cooperation is the development of marketing and usage of LNG in road transport and shipping in the German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The companies share the long-term goal of providing the infrastructure required to bunker LNG, thereby creating additional sales channels for LNG.

Establishing such infrastructure at Germany’s largest multi-purpose Baltic Sea port will allow LNG to be delivered to the Baltic coast of Germany. The port of Rostock provides the necessary port space for the LNG installation. The GAZPROM Group is also investigating options of transporting LNG from intermediate storages to independent gas suppliers by truck and models of selling LNG for use in natural gas vehicles. In the future, LNG will be shipped from the planned liquefaction plant in the Gulf of Finland.
